To most of us, the sun is a symbol for the day. For the light hours, for morning and noon. 
But that is, in fact, not always the case on this planet. There are places where the sun shines at night, at midnight to be precise. Place high up north oder low down south. Places with different cycles of day and night and even summer and winter.
